Jack Hidle is a professional entertainer, specializing in recreating the sound of the singer-songwriter era spanning from the mid 1960's through the 1970's, with some of the more recent nostalgic gems included. When not doing his solo act, Jack often throws in with local dance bands playing some of the harder-edged stuff from the same general era. Jack has been playing guitar since age 8, bass since age 13, and writing and recording his original songs for as long or longer. His musical experience singing and playing with other young musicians began in seventh grade, and by eighth grade he was a member of a working band playing at schools, parties, and eventually the night club scene in the quaint college town of New Paltz, New York and the surrounding areas of New York's Hudson Valley. Jack has continued the saga in the Northern Virginia / Greater Washington D.C. area, both as a solo performer and with a number of established groups. He has also been working one-on-one with other guitarist/vocalists on projects with a focus on recreating the sounds of an era when musical duos singing beautiful, tight harmonies were in vogue. Although Jack is technically proficient both instrumentally and vocally, most notable about his musicianship is his ability to play by ear “on the fly.” He is known for his ability to sit in with established groups of musicians, and “fill in” as they go -- even on songs with which he is not completely familiar. Nobody knows whether this is some kind of “ear talent,” or merely his experience and knowledge of relative chords and typical progressions. It is probably some combination or the two. But wherever it comes from, it does add nicely to his work at “Open Mic Nights” at the local pubs and clubs, because he is able to remain on stage all night if requested and back-up other musicians, either on bass or guitar, to help fill in their sound. This abiliy to play just about anything has come in handy in emergencies when local groups have needed a substitute guitarist or bassist for a performance on short notice.
Jack performs at open mic nights around the Northern Virginia area, playing the occasional original tune, but primarily mass favorites from the 60’s through present times. Jack is also performing occasionally with other groups. Check out his schedule here.
Jack is also proficient on the technical side of things, having been recording his own music in his analog-digital combo recording studio for decades. He occasionally takes on a recording project for other musicians looking to record a demo or market a CD. His most recent venture was producing Dave Berry’s “Irish Pub Songs” CD which was released in the fall of 2011.
Jack is currently available for performances as a solo musician for public and private events. Musical groups in need of a substitute on guitar or bass can also contact him. Booking information can be found here.
